Just a little over 24 hours left before I set off on another tour of Europe. This time: Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, and various countries in the Balkan. It feels like I have spent half of my usual monthly expenses in one day on the supplies for this trip alone.
On a recent trip to Spain I bought and read Rolf Potts excellent “Vagabonding”. I was reluctant to get a “self-help” book, but it was not too bad.
The author clearly has done a lot of travelling and the book has a lot of useful (and practical) advice. Some of the advice is specific to vagabonding, but a lot of it also applies to being on the road in general. Well worth a read if you do any kind of travel outside of your home country. He also kept an on-line travelogue about travelling round the world without baggage, which is also worth a look.
I still have vague plans to go vagabonding, but the thought of quitting my job and packing up my stuff and leaving everybody behind for more than a month or two still scares me too much at the moment.
